It is as children we begin to form our understanding of the world and shape our values, which is why it is crucial to start discussing topics like gender equality with young audiences. In traditional retellings of ancient myths, male figures tend to take the center stage, while women are often sidelined or forgotten. This project seeks to highlight the women who have long been underrepresented in these male-dominated narratives.
A recurring issue regarding how ancient Greece and its mythology is represented in media is that women rarely play influential roles, regardless of their significance in the original material. This lack of proper female representation is particularly evident in children's literature, where strong female role models are still scarce. Addressing this gap is at the heart of “Gudinnor och Hjältinnor”, a children’s book designed to bring forward powerful, inspiring women from Greek mythology and make their stories accessible and engaging for young readers.
