Boken is a silent picture book – a children’s book without words, telling the story of a child’s discovery of literature through a visit to her local library. The project’s aim was to exemplify the results of my studies in visual storytelling, with a focus on color as a narrative tool. How could color be used to affect the reader, bring a story to life and make the child want to turn the page and keep reading – even when words are absent?
I used a combination of pencil drawing and digital coloring to create the book and hope that it can result in interesting book conversations as well as inspiration for designers in the increasingly visual media climate of today.
