You know the South Swedish painted wall hangings. No? That’s not surprising. Most people are familiar with the wall hangings from Dalarna or Hälsingland, but the South Swedish ones (from Skåne, Blekinge, Småland, Halland and the southern part of Västergötland) have almost been forgotten. This project aims to increase awareness of the South Swedish painted wall hangings from the 18th and 19th centuries and how various elements inspired by them can be applied in modern communication.
I have created a wall hanging using materials inspired by those used in the 18th and 19th centuries – linen fabric and egg tempera. The story is based on a legend from Trollberget in Åsnen National Park. Elements that can be used in modern communication include a vertical layout, decorative border, decorative patterns that fill empty space, earth tones and large color fields.
