Hella lot of pressure is a love letter to printmaking. Traditional printmaking methods are losing their relevance due to the digital era we live in today, thereby risking a limitation of contemporary graphic designers' creative and artistic freedom. The goal of this project is to make printmaking more obtainable for graphic designers (and others) and inspire them to use these techniques themselves.
Applying my knowledge about printmaking techniques in a home environment (my kitchen) I performed four hand printing experiments: DIY lithography, relief printing with kitchen objects, DIY pressure printing and the classic potato stamp. I’ve then created four artist books out of the results. Blending traditional printmaking techniques with modern graphic design into a shared space of experimentation, where process, texture and surprise take the lead. Hopefully this project hella lot of pressure can also inspire other designers to apply the craftsmanship of printmkaing in their own design processes.
